1-minute Calcutta

As a child, some 40 years ago, the sounds I used to associate with Calcutta can't be heard any more. The sounds of certain hawkers, horns of vehicles, bus conductors or even beggars etc. They don't exist anymore. I have decided that I must record the sounds that I hear today. No matter how trivial they sound today, they will be my treasure tomorrow. My equipment as of today (8th May 2013) is an Edirol R09HR. I use its built-in stereo mics. I propose to get a Rode NT4 soon.

College Street on a Saturday

I had promised Mampu to get newsprint for her drawing practice from Baithakkhana Bazaar near Sealdah. We went out together. Perforce we had to park the car near the Hindu Hostel - a good distance from the paper mart.

I recorded some street sounds near the College Street area - this particular one is from the crossing of College Street to Coffee House with book sellers constantly asking: do you want any books? A flute seller's melancholic playing of the flute adds colour and character to the recording.
